LINK teamed up with Alex Swaynie, Owner and Founder of Ross Snow Tech, to develop the first and only snowboard binding that converts to a snowshoe. After years of engineering, designing, and testing we came up with the Convert.
The product debut was at Outdoor Retailer in Denver Colorado this year where it won “Best in Show” by Gear Junkie.
It was also featured by The Daily, Outdoor Retailers official publication
THE PROCESS
THE PROCESS
Alex came to us with a concept and a sheet metal prototype. We looked at a variety of different ways to achieve the transformation we needed out of the binding. We started with sketching and worked through a handful of different prototypes to arrive at a final design.

prototype testing
Link provided RST with a testable prototype that was used on the mountain to ensure the bindings worked as designed. We were focused on the strength of the linkage system as well as making sure that nothing had potential to get jammed or packed with snow.
We implemented small changes into the design based on our observations and some user testing. This allowed us to be confident in a final design that would be easy to use and reliable for the end user.
The Convert leverages a linkage system to enable a tool free transition from snowshoe flotation to "strapping in" in 60 seconds or less, without loose hardware. Our mounting bracket is compatible with any board using the traditional 4x4 binding configuration.
