Ronin #1, Oishi Yoshio, named after the leader of the legendary 47 Ronin, raced in the 93rd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June of 2015. Travis Newbold piloted Oishi and achieved a 2nd place finish in the top Heavyweight division right behind the professional factory Honda sponsored race team. The custom race motorcycle, built around the EBR 1190RX platform, was the second fastest motorcycle in the race. This was a tremendous accomplishment to both Mr. Newbold, Ronin Motor Works, and Link, who designed, engineered, and assembled the bike in only 5 months.

Oishi’s 1190RX base is considerably different from the other 46 Ronin that were built around a fleet of Buell 1125 motorcycles. This required re-engineering the front girder suspension, brakes, air intake, exhaust and electronics. Also included were high-performance Brembo brakes, specially-designed carbon fiber wheels, and custom controls.
The one-off front end of this motorcycle was entirely machined from billet aluminum. The CNC time took over 500 hours.
"The first ride was a pretty darn good success. This is the secondary race bike. The primary one is going to be mental! I was pleased to find the Ronin handled very well. I pushed it harder and harder all day and did not have one single moment that the tires did not track like rails. The next month is going to be a lot of fun as I get more seat time. I am one lucky fucker!” - Travis Newbold
Travis Newbold races Ronin #1 (OISHI YOSHIO) in the 93rd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, June 28th, 2015. Ronin was #2 in motorcycles and #10 overall. Road conditions were "slick" due to the heat and the Ronin was starting on a cold engine to help with cooling during the latter part of the race.
